Urgh! Exams…The mere mention of the word gives me anxiety. It brings back memories of me leaving everything to the last minute, feeling woefully unprepared, and then scraping my way through a series of exams that—as it turns out—were apparently crucial to my further education.

Don’t be like me!

Your exams will only be stressful if you allow the work to pile up and get the best of you. In fact, with these simple steps and a little assistance, you can steamroll your exams and come out the other end feeling relieved, proud, and focused on the future!

Tip 1 – Make the material your own

Take a piece of text, or anything else that you need to commit to memory for your exam and do something with it! Make it your own. You can do this by creating a mind-map, or drawing out a poster that transforms the information in a way that you can better digest. The simple process of regurgitating the information will make it much easier to recall when it comes to crunch time!

Tip 2 – Find a revision style that suits you

One of the best things that you can do to overcome exam stress is to be honest with yourself. What works for you? Which method of revision makes you feel the most comfortable? Some people are visual learners, where others rely on listening… Whatever the case, find your unique style and develop a revision plan around it.

Tip 3 – Write a revision plan

Your teacher/tutor should be able to help you with a list of the essential information that you MUST know in order to pass the exam with flying colors. The best way of getting this essential information locked down is by writing out a revision plan that clearly details everything that you need to know. That way, you can start working through it at your own pace and start committing the important bits to memory.

Tip 4 – Request past papers

Another invaluable revision tip is to look at the types of questions that have appeared in past exams. Not only will it help you get a clear picture of what to expect on the day, but it can help you understand where any gaps in your knowledge appear. With this level of support from your tutor, you will be able to wholeheartedly prepare yourself for the exam to follow.

What else can you do to smash your exams?

The tips above are things that you can do by yourself in order to prepare for your exams, but there are other ways of gearing yourself up. Here are a few things that we recommend if you are feeling overwhelmed and would like additional assistance before D-Day!

Hire a tutor

With personal tutoring you can receive professionally designed strategies that have been personalized especially for you, in order to help you achieve your goals.

To some people, hiring a tutor might seem like a waste of time. The fact is, it’s not just about having the information in front of you, but understanding how to digest it properly. Our tutors are highly trained and well-versed in retaining vital information. We can guide you on your path towards exam preparation and ensure that you are entirely confident and ready to smash it!

Group sessions

Group sessions are available to those who like working in a group. Often, the simple act of discussing a subject with another person can help tremendously with retaining the information and recalling it when need be. Perhaps it will be recalling a funny anecdote that one of your fellow students shared in a group session, or a joke that was made about a certain topic. Whatever the case, it can really help to share the burden of exam stress when discussing the essential information with other people who are in the same boat as you.

Test preparation courses

We have a variety of courses that have been prepared and delivered by experienced tutors, and customized to help each individual student prepare themselves for their upcoming exams. Of course, the thought of doing ANOTHER course on top of your exam might be daunting to you. However, you must remember the fact that these courses are designed with exams in mind. They are specifically engineered to help you overcome the difficulties and the stress that come with the approach to taking your exams.

If you feel unprepared, now is the time to act! It doesn’t matter how difficult it might seem right now, or how impossible; you can do it if you put your mind to it. And we will be with you every single step of the way!

Exams are hard! In fact, to put it bluntly, they completely suck! That said, exams don’t last forever. Remember that these are essential stepping stones on your path to success. Apply yourself now so that you can relax later. Believe us, once it is all over and done with and you pass with flying colors because you knuckled down and got it done, you’ll feel amazing!
